Coastal

This seaside style is a clean, transitional style with an airy and open feel. Painted finishes, especially whites, greys and a spectrum of blues – from Oxford Blue to Sea Glass – carry the nautical aesthetic.

Furniture style cabinetry, glass doors, open shelving, beadboard, beaded doors and shiplap keep the beachy vibe. White linen and cotton lend a casual feel. Organic nautical materials such as rope, rattan, sisal, jute, and driftwood signal the style’s maritime past. Contrast the clean white with stripes, plaids, buffalo checks, sea motifs (lobsters, whales and anchors.)

Scandinavian

Simplicity, utility and beauty – a pure, pared back style that is centered on functionality, clean lines and understated elegance. The Scandinavian style emerged in the 1950’s in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.

Minimalist look with rounded contours: slab doors on cabinets, open shelves, low couches, and leather-backed wood chairs. Sleek surfaces dominate with form-pressed wood, plastics, anodized or enameled aluminum or pressed steel. Monochromatic palette of whites and neutral grays with pops of bright accent colors. Minimal ornamentation keeps the atmosphere warm, calm and spacious.

Farmhouse

Unpretentious style with a collected-over-time look, distressed furnishings and vintage finishes. All of the charm of a homestead farmhouse, but updated with modern conveniences. Painted cabinets with vintage hardware, white subway tile backsplashes, open shelving stores necessities and glass-front cabinets to showcase antique dishware says “Farmhouse.” Sturdy, time-tested furniture handcrafted from distressed woods, steel and wrought iron. Color palette with neutrals – white, grey, cream, beige, plus earthy tones slate and sage.

Transitional

The Transitional style features a balance between Traditional and Contemporary designs. It has elements of classic design and proportions, but with cleaner, more fluid lines. Neutral taupe, tan and vanilla paint colors help achieve serene and timeless atmosphere. To make up for the lack of color, infuse the design with interesting textures and materials including glass, steel, concrete and marble. Medium to dark wood cabinetry has a lack of ornamentation to keep the focus on the simplicity and sophistication of the design.

Craftsman Style

Also known as Arts and Crafts, the Craftsman look is more than 100 years old. This design style features traditional craftsmanship using simple forms and is still popular today. Intricate woodworking and detailed stonework created from natural materials reflect the skill of the artists and craftsman who created them.
Straight-forward clean lines with rich, natural colors distinguish this simpler aesthetic. Ideas for kitchens include: shaker style doors in Quarter Sawn Oak, prairie style mullion inserts, subway or ceramic tile backsplash, floating shelves, farm sinks and medium tone hardwood floors.

Mediterranean Style

This warm and inviting style reflects the visual splendor of the coastal regions of Spain, Greece and Italy. Curves are big part of this look. Add it with hardware, faucets, a curved kitchen island or a flared hood. Rich but unpretentious hues echo the earth, sea and sky.

Bring this luscious mix of cultures to your project with a sculpted edge on countertops, ornate corbels and posts, backsplashes with colorful mosaic tiles and wrought iron light fixtures. Textured finishes on walls meet stone and wood floors covered with antique rugs.

Traditional Style

With a hint of old-world England or classic French country charm, the goal of this style is to be inviting and comforting – not overly formal or stuffy.  This look exemplifies elegance while at the same time being understated.
Select curved legs, columns, turnings and stacked moldings reflect the curved lines, symmetry, and attention to detail of the Traditional style. Timeless, not dated, enduring beauty can be found in cabinets in rich hues – Beech, Cherry and Maple.  Fabric colors and patterns are often muted and understated.

Modern Style

This sleek look with clean, straight lines was meant to be the opposite of previous design styles. With Modern design, it’s function before form: the lack of additional details embody the utilitarian nature of this aesthetic.  Mixing in textures like wood and metals infuses character and warmth. White and grays are the neutral color palette with hints of color to add personality. Streamlined furniture – square-armed sofas, tapered legs, sleek-edge credenzas. Add geometric motifs such as hexagons, honeycombs and grids to maintain a crisp feel while keeping it interesting.

Classic Style

Timeless design style steers away from overly decorated and overly busy patterns and shapes. Select door styles, molding and accessories that are refined – not trendy. Use natural resources such as woods, stones, brick, and simple fabrics like cotton and linen to achieve this sophisticated and functional style. Furniture, fabric, artwork and other elements from different design styles can be placed together, but keep the order, symmetry and balance in check. Neutral colors are key to Classic design, and can be complemented with black, navy blue and dark green.

Boho Style

This aesthetic is a carefree and eclectic look that blends old and new. It includes a mix of natural elements for a casual, collected feel. Open shelves are perfect for both necessities and personal treasures from your travels.
Keep the festival-inspired vibe going with layers of colors in the kitchen. Be adventurous with painted cabinets, mosaic tile backsplashes, colorful appliances, unique hardware and thrift store finds. Boho means combining textures. It could be a Moroccan dyed rug, vintage throws, handmade blankets, macramé wall art and unique mirrors.
